In 1996, Pat was honored with the Nightingale Award for excellence in Nursing long-term care practice. Although Pat rarely mentions the award, our family is very proud of this achievement Pat has obtained.
Here are some excerpts from the Oakland University web pages:
Nightingale’s philosophy is reflective of the beliefs held by Oakland University School of Nursing - that nursing, and nurses, are integral to facilitating the health and well being among all people and their communities. For this reason, the Nightingale Awards for Nursing® were established in 1989. Nightingale nurses are caring, compassionate, and apply the education they have to problem solving and leadership. These are the characteristics that the Nightingale recipients portray, and the characteristics that we instill in our students

Well, I ran across some old pictures of bands I used to play in from High School thru 1976. I'll post a few ...... but you CAN'T LAUGH!
|
Which one am I?? High School Band 1967. Basically a basement band but we did get a couple of paying gigs during the year. |
|
|
Battle of the Bands 1968. (Universal City Mall Parking Lot) We were a newly formed band when we played this. Cream was big at the time and we played "Sunshine of your love" and one other song that I don't even remember. We came in third place which was great for a band together only a couple of weeks. It actually got us a audition with Dynamic Records of Detroit. *The rest of the story below if you are interested. |

College band in 1969. These guys were all friends of mine that went to the local Catholic high school. Just a way to have some fun during our first year of college. |

"The Crosswinds" (1974) band was pretty much together from 1971 to 1976. A few different drummers, and one other guy was in and out a time or two, but this band had some talent. Most of the time we were booked nine to twelve months in advance. Working almost every weekend two and sometimes three nights. We played pretty much any kind of music except hardcore Country. The only band that I knew of at the time that played Moody Blues songs like "Story in Her Eyes". Not just the typical "Knights in White Satin" that everyone did. Over the years we played lounges to weddings. Like the handlebars?? |

Crosswinds New Years Eve Party 1975. Time was running short by this time. A job offer at Ford Motor Company was five months away and it was an opportunity I could not pass up. I have lost touch with Bill Saylor (shown in the picture with me here) and Chuck who was playing drums at this time. I recently saw Rick (keyboards) and he was still playing professionally. Don't even think about saying something about the hair.... |
* Well, the story goes like this. Playing at the battle of the bands got us noticed by one of the owners of Dynamic Records. They were a black owned and talent corporation. They had a group under contract at the time call the "Superlatives" which had a hit record (at least locally) and was looking to expand their lineup with some Rock and Roll. We actually got to the studio and played for some people there including one or two of Smokey Robinsons band members. Things were going pretty well when we decided to take a break and get something to eat. The owner told us to take his car since all of us in the band could fit in it at once and we wouldn't have to take two vehicles. Well, that was a huge mistake. We got into an accident, totaled his car, and lost any chance of making a record. And now you know that rest of the story.
